My favorite meal/dining experience during my quick trip to Chicago was at Fulton Market Kitchen!
I am obsessed. FMK is where the art world and foodie’s heaven collide. Fulton Market Kitchen is a unique dining experience with eclectic food served in multiple, art-filled dining rooms. Each dining space has it’s own curated art installations, including pieces that are for sale.
I found + booked my reservation on OpenTable, one of my favorite apps. From the moment our Uber arrived in front on FMK I knew I loved this place. The building is hugged by black and white painted strips. As you walk in the front door, you are greeted by bold artwork and soft light. The smiling hostess seated us right away at a quaint wooden table paired with mixed-print fabric chairs. Diving the main dining room was a long, skinny table with flickering candles and vintage books. The service was second to none and enhanced the dining experience even more.
My mom and I ordered 5 small plates and popped a bottle of Cava. I have to say, this is my favorite way to eat. We shared the barbacoa taco (off of the bar bites menu), grilled octopus, burrata, acorn squash ravioli — and then ordered a second taco because it was that good!
While the taco was the favorite of the night, they have it on a rotating preparation so it may be different when you visit! The must-order is the acorn squash ravioli. This ravioli is perfectly flavored with warm down butter, pecorino, and finished with walnut relish. The burrata was incredibly fresh and was accompanied by an arugula salad with apple, saba, and hazelnut topped with crushes pistachios. This was the first time I didn’t have fresh heirloom tomatoes with my burrata, but I loved the twist!
OF COURSE I ordered dessert… The apple butter cake is another must-order. It was amazing. Comparable to Nick’s on 2nd warm butter cake — which may be my favorite dessert ever. (Just realized I never wrote a post on Nick’s in Long Beach, CA — so that must be #blogged in the future). However, Fulton Market Kitchen’s A.B.C. is topped with bourbon caramel, mulled spiced apples (SO GOOD), and vanilla date puree. I would fly back to Chicago just for this dessert!
