Black is always my go-to. There is no color more flattering, versatile, or sophisticated. I often think that bright colors look juvenile — at least on me. Not to say that I don’t own color — I actually just purchased a magenta AQUA dress… but black pieces of clothing definitely monopolize the hangers in my closet. Wearing all black emphasizes the texture of the clothing. For instance, this outfit includes sheer mesh, lace, denim with delicate embroidery, metallics, and smooth leather. The sheer black mesh front-split maxi top is the focal point of the outfit. The lace bralette adds some additional texture.
Sidenote: I loathe bras. Bralettes are: 1. more comfortable — name one thing made with a wire that is comfortable… 2. more fashionable — instead of being something that is meant to be hidden under an article of clothing, it can help pull together an outfit. 3. false advertisement — let’s be real, if you don’t have boobs there is no need to fake it with a push-up, double padded, bulletproof, perfectly rounded bra. You’re not fooling anybody. #bralettes4life Then again, if you have big boobs, bras may be totally necessary — I just personally find them annoying.
Back to the outfit… My cut-off jean shorts have a subtle design embroidered on them adding just enough detail. My peep-toe leather booties offer yet another texture. Multiple textures work with this outfit, mainly because it is monochromatic black, once other colors are involved I would be more critical of how each color and texture all play off each other. Most of the time I opt for simplicity — but sometimes going all-out is fun.
I have an obsession with rings. Thumb rings, toe rings, knuckle rings, any rings really. My Tiffany teardrop ring is missing here, but that normally never comes off of my thumb. Here I also have on a silver hand chain, along side a petite gemstone bracelet, and a watch with a black leather band. One of my favorite pieces I have on here is my Chan Luu wrap bracelet. This normally finds its way on my wrist when I am wearing any black article of clothing. I am in love with all of her designs and am currently trying to collect every color/stone/wrap combination there is. This particular one is made up of silver misshaped beads and wrapped with black wicker.
A more comfortable alternative to heels would be black high top converse or any stylish sneaker. I can always use the extra inches, plus enjoy being over-dressed rather than under-dressed.
Not pictured here was the black leather mini backpack I took with me to hold my wallet etc..
