I had a fantastic small plate dinner + wine this past Thursday night.
Roost is a cozy yet sophisticated restaurant located in Sparkhill, NY. I couldn’t get past the “small plates” section of their menu without wanting one of everything, so we chose to dine my favorite way — by trying a little bit of everything. It is my favorite way to dine out because you get to taste a number of different dishes!
First, you MUST order the Slab Bacon. Not an option, it’s a must. This thick cut of bacon is cooked to perfection, placed over a guava-BBQ sauce that is to die for, then topped with crisp shallots. Is your mouth watering yet? The combination of the three is heavenly. And the plate’s beautiful presentation made it taste that much better.
Next, the night’s special small plate had my friend and I fighting over the last bite. While the Moses Sleeper Brie from Vermont was the focal point, the tastes along side of it were carefully thought out — olive oil crostini, spice-dusted Asian pear, olives, pickle slices and a fig preserve. I’ve been craving this since.
The next two we shared plates were Charred Octopus and and Maine Mussels. Both had flavors I had never tasted paired with either seafood. The octopus was surrounded in an oregano dressing and the mussels had an ale sauce. Both very tasty and unique.
Annnd there was no way I was leaving without getting dessert… or two. “Flourless Callebaut Chocolate Soufflé Cake with Whipped Crème Fraiche” + “Buttermilk Panna Cotta, Hazelnut Brittle and Balsamic Strawberry Jam”. I wasn’t going to word it any better than they did on their menu… I am still dreaming of that chocolate soufflé cake.
I cannot wait to go back and try Roost’s delicious-sounding entrées!
XO,
L
P.S. Their staff was incredibly nice and attentive which made the dining experience that much better!
