Dreaming of Art Cafe’s Malawach…
Disclaimer: Steph and I ate this spread in its entirety. And the waitress was judging us HARD.
This adorable cafe found in the village of Nyack, New York offers delicious Middle Eastern vegetarian meals, coffee, and loose leaf teas. All of the dishes shown here (and ones I’ve had during other visits ((rice bowl!!))) have such distinct tastes that each stands out from one another.
My favorite was the egg and cheese Malawach. WTF is a Malawach? I didn’t know either. But it is phenomenal.
Imagine thin Israeli dough that is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside (by some miracle), served with a spicy tomato dipping sauce. Now after being blown away by this Malawach, we realized we could’ve gotten more exotic with the fillings… but this was perfect for brunch.
Another favorite of mine was the Shakshooka. Their Shakshooka is two organic eggs baked in spicy tomato sauce + Bulgarian feta & mediterranean herbs. This Shakshooka (I just like typing Shakshooka at this point) is also served with pita, and I swear dipping some type of bread — or anything really — makes the food even tastier.
I could go on and on about each dish I’ve tried here. But do yourself a favor, and go to Art Cafe with a bunch of people (or just one other like Steph and I) — and order a ton of dishes to share. Sharing is caring, people.
XO,
L
